10 most in demand jobs right now - with salaries from £39k-£106k

Teachers, solicitors and business directors are some of the most in-demand jobs in the UK right now.

Jobs website Indeed found the roles with the biggest increase in listings year on year, based on jobs that pay the average salary or more (currently £37,430 according to the Office for National Statistics).

Teachers came out top with a rise in demand of a whopping 245% - more than double that of any other profession.

There has been a drop off in the number of people training to become teachers, according to the Department for Education. Figures from 2023 found the recruitment target for secondary school teachers had been missed by 50%.

The starting salary for a teacher is £31,650 with a typical teacher earning at least £43,607 after five years, according to the DfE, with more paid to those in London.

There was a 111% increase in listings for property solicitors (£52,929 average salary) and 93% rise in adverts for employment solicitors (£55,315). Meanwhile, there was a 108% rise in listings for commercial directors (£81,802).

There is also demand in the medical world, with doctors (who earn £72,902) and paediatricians (who earn £106,048) seeing a 95% and 91% rise in listings.

Signalling the clamour for healthcare working across the board, 6.9% of all CV searches on Indeed in 2023 were for nurses, with support workers and care assistants also scoring high.

In the tech space, there was a 100% increase in jobs for senior user interface designer (essentially, someone who helps develop apps so they're easy for customers to use). And despite the fear that AI could take human jobs, there was an 86% rise in Artificial Intelligence/machine learning engineers, with the sector making it onto the 'in demand' list for the first time.

In its report, Indeed said: "Our data shows AI is actually creating jobs for people.

"That said, Hiring Lab reported last quarter that AI jobs should still be considered rare, and the vast majority of jobs still only require basic computer skills.

"Therefore, it may actually be more beneficial to upskill than to reskill, learning how to apply AI tools to your current role so you can possibly position yourself for career advancement."
