MyPolicy Car Insurance Overall Review

MyPolicy offers telematics car insurance to help keep prices low for safe, young drivers. Customer reviews are solid and so is the set of standard features.

In addition to tracking safe driving through telematics, MyPolicy also prioritises mileage when pricing their plans. This can be beneficial if you don't drive a lot, but either way if you take out MyPolicy car insurance be sure that your actual mileage lines up with what you've declared to MyPolicy or your policy could be canceled.

MyPolicy can cancel a car insurance policy for exceeding the declared mileage. This means it's important to try to accurately estimate your annual mileage correctly when you take out the policy—and if your driving patterns change after you've taken out the policy then it's best to proactively tell MyPolicy to increase the expected mileage. You may need to pay an additional premium. Here are some examples that my trigger cancellation due to excess mileage.

Your policy will be automatically canceled if, for instance:

  • 25% of the amount declared is consumed within the first 2 months of taking out a policy
  • 90% of the amount declared is consumed within the first 3 months of taking out a policy
  • 100% of the amount declared is consumed

Anyone taking out MyPolicy car insurance also needs to be extra careful not to speed or their insurance might be canceled. Exceeding the speed limit by 50% or exceeding 100mph triggers an automatic policy cancellation.

Your policy will be automatically canceled if:

  • 30+ mph is recorded in a 20 mph zone
  • +45 mph is recorded in a 30 mph zone
  • +60 mph is recorded in a 40 mph zone
  • +75 mph is recorded in a 50 mph zone
  • +90 mph is recorded in a 60 mph zone
  • Speed in excess of 100 mph is recorded

We read hundreds of reviews to see what customers really say about their experiences with My Policy car insurance. While the vast majority of comments were very positive, the complaints seemed to center around long wait time when trying to contact customer service and issues related to the mileage.

"The member of staff I spoke with was ever so friendly and helpful he spoke me through my policy and helped me understand as im a new driver and this is my first time insuring my car since passing my test."

MyPolicy is a car insurance broker who works with AXA, Highway Insurance (Part of LV) and Mulsanne to provide young driver, low mileage and commercial vehicle insurance.
MyPolicy low mileage and young driver plans should include windshield replacement, but check your policy documents to be sure.
The MyPolicy Telematic Smart Box measures acceleration, braking, speed, cornering, time of use, mileage, vehicle location and types of roads used (e.g., city, motorways, country lanes). Each journey is scored between -10 and 10. A score of +1 to +10 is a good journey score. A score of -5 to 0 indicates a below average journey, which will trigger an email or sms notification to you to improve your driving. A score of -10 to -6 is a high risk journey, which also triggers notification. In addition, accumulating 2 or more "high risk" scores means action may be taken, such as requiring an additional premium or cancellation. Learn more.
There are no curfews with MyPolicy black box policies. However, driving at higher risk times like late at night may impact your driver score. Here's how the MyPolicy score works.
Policyholders are insured to drive as soon as their policy begins. However the black box must be fitted within seven days of the start of the policy. For more information read this review of MyPolicy black box car insurance.
You should be able to change your car with MyPolicy but you may be asked to pay a higher premium and a change fee. For example, the reinstallation charge for black box plans is £150 if you change your vehicle.
