How much is a Audi A3? Full costs revealed.
Thinking about buying a Audi A3? It's been one of the most popular car brands in the UK for years, with particular strength in the EV rankings. The Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron ranked 3rd and 4th behind Tesla Model Y and Model 3 in 2025. The NimbleFins car insurance experts have run the numbers on purchase prices for new and used cars, insurance and road tax. Here's what we found.
Audi A3 Price
The NimbleFins car data experts have dug into publicly available new and used car data to learn how much motorists need to pay for an Audi A3 in the UK, as prices vary across different trim and fuel types.
Cost of a new Audi A3
As of early 2026, the average price for a brand new Audi A3 has reached approximately £38,500, reflecting a market where new car prices are up 39% since 2015. Beyond the purchase price, ownership costs are rising; the average annual cost to run a car in the UK hit £3,484 in 2025, an 8% increase since 2020 driven largely by higher costs for repairs and servicing.
Keep in mind that starting OTR price don't include optional extras or features, which can raise the price. For example, the Technology Pack costs from £1,295 up to £2,995 for larger models. The Technology Pack Pro (includes adaptive cruise, lane assist, panoramic sunroof, electronically-controlled front seats with memory, and more) costs up to £4,595.
Cost of a used Audi A3
NimbleFins analysis of over 1,000 vehicles indicates that Audi A3 cars lose around £5,000 if they are resold in their first year, representing depreciation of 15%. In the second and third years, the typical Audi A3 depreciates approximately 12% per year, losing around £3,300 - £3,500 in value each year.
A five-year-old Audi typically costs in the range of £15,000 to £30,000, depending on the model, trim, mileage and other factors. The median price for a used car in the UK is now just over £16,000; Audi prices are higher because of Audi's premium status.
Audi A3 Insurance Costs
NimbleFins market tests of hundreds of car insurance policies found that Audi A3 insurance costs are highly variable. A low-risk driver could pay as little as £400 or so a year to insure a new Audi A3 with comprehensive cover, assuming an entry level car with a smaller engine and cheaper trim level, like a Aportback Audi A3 with a Sport trim with an OTR price of under £30,000. But the same driver could pay over £1,000 to insure an A3 with a larger engine in Black Edition trim level worth £40,000.
Prices will vary significantly across driver profiles (e.g. age, driving record, location, etc.) and also by type of vehicle. Generally speaking, more expensive cars cost more to insure.
Your insurance prices will certainly vary; use this information as a rough guide as to starting insurance costs and to see how they might vary for the vehicle you're considering.
Audi A3 Road Tax Cost
The road tax for a new Audi A3 depends on the type of fuel / energy and the list price, and can vary significantly from one car to the next. This section has seen major regulatory updates for 2026. From 1 April 2025, the standard Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) has risen to £195 a year. Furthermore, if the list price of your Audi A3 exceeds £40,000—which is common when adding the Technology Pack Pro or opting for the S Line trim—you will be liable for the £410 'expensive car supplement' (luxury car tax) for five years starting from the second time the vehicle is taxed.
To see the road tax for a specific car, use the gov road tax calculator—heads up, you'll need the CO2 value, the type of fuel/energy and the list price to use the calculator.
