Tesla Y Price

The NimbleFins car data experts have dug into publicly available new and used car data to learn how much motorists are really paying for their Tesla Y cars. Here's what we found.

Cost of a new Tesla Y

As of 2026, starting OTR prices for the Tesla Model Y have been adjusted following the 2025 'Juniper' design refresh. Prices now start at £46,990 for the Rear-Wheel Drive (Standard Range), £54,990 for the Long Range AWD, and £61,990 for the Performance variant. Our 2026 market analysis shows that due to high demand for the refreshed Long Range model with added interior features, the average market asking price for a brand-new Tesla Model Y has risen to £56,800. Optional extras, such as 'Enhanced Autopilot' (£3,400) and 20-inch Induction Wheels (£2,100), remain popular add-ons.

2026 Tesla Model Y Starting OTR PricesPrice
Model Y (Standard Range, Rear-Wheel Drive)£41,990
Model Y Long Range, Rear-Wheel Drive£44,990
Model Y Premium Long Range, All-Wheel Drive£51,990
Model Y Performance, All-Wheel Drive£61,990
Average Market Price£50,240

And if you opt for additional options and extras like premium paint and wheels, autopilot and even self-driving capability, the list price can rise further.

Cost of a used Tesla Y

Our 2026 used car analysis indicates that the Model Y’s depreciation has stabilized after the volatility of previous years. A one-year-old Model Y (2025 registration) is typically £9,400 cheaper than its new equivalent, representing an 18% drop. In its second year (2024 registration), it loses a further 11%, and in the third year (2023 registration), it depreciates by another 8%. This makes 3-year-old models particularly attractive to used buyers, as they often retail for approximately 63% of their original OTR price.

Registration YearCar AgeAverage Used Price
2026New / Delivery Miles£46,990
20251 Year Old£38,500
20242 Years Old£34,250
20233 Years Old£31,500

Tesla Y Insurance Costs

Insurance premiums for the Model Y have softened slightly as insurers gain more data on repair costs. In 2026, testing for a low-risk driver showed that a Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y costs roughly £740 to insure annually. However, the higher-performance motors and increased battery capacity of the Long Range and Performance variants mean these still command a premium, typically costing the same driver between £1,050 and £1,150 per year.

Tesla Y Road Tax Cost

Crucially, the days of 'free' road tax for EVs are over. Following legislation that came into effect in April 2025, the Tesla Model Y is now subject to Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). New vehicles pay a first-year 'showroom tax' of £10. From year two onwards, all Model Y owners must pay the standard annual rate of £190. Furthermore, because every Tesla Model Y variant has a list price exceeding £40,000, they are subject to the 'Expensive Car Supplement.' This adds an additional £410 a year for five years starting from the second year of registration, bringing your total annual tax bill to £600.
