Study Concludes that Dronfield is the Safest Place in the East Midlands

Dronfield is the safest post town in the East Midlands, according to a recent study by consumer-research group NimbleFins. Those living in the S18 postcode district (which includes Dronfield, Coal Aston and Donfield Woodhouse) can sleep soundly knowing they’re less likely to be the victim of a crime, according to data collected between March 2016 and March 2017.

Watched over by the Derbyshire Constabulary, Dronfield came in 1st with the lowest overall crime score out of the 44 East Midland post towns included in the study, which considered post towns with populations greater than 1,000. Dronfield’s overall crime score of 593 is 71% lower than the East Midlands’ average crime score of 2,016.

The overall crime score was made up of a violent crime component and a property crime component. Dronfield ranked 1st in violent crime safety (398 per 100k residents) and 2nd in property crimes (1,372 property crimes per 100k residents), just beaten out by Southwell (1,334 property crimes per 100k residents).

In the full study you can see how the rest of the East Midlands post towns rank and read more about the methodology used to calculate the crime scores.

In terms of overall crime score, the rest of the top five safest places in the East Midlands behind Dronfield are Bakewell, Southwell, Belper and Hope Valley – all small to medium towns. Among large towns with populations greater than 50,000, Swadlincote ranked 1st as the safest place with a crime score of 1,523, followed by Alfreton, Chesterfield, Ibstock and Loughborough.
