Car Licence Statistics in the East Midlands

We analysed data from the Department for Transport to find neighborhoods in the East Midlands with the biggest increase in cars over the past five years. These areas will feel noticeably busier at rush hour and residents may struggle to find parking more than they did a few years ago. From the 2014 to 2019, the number of cars in the East Midlands increased from 2,280,687 to 2,456,963. Residents have to content with an additional 176,276 cars on the road now—7.7% more than five years ago.

Areas of the East Midlands with Significantly More Cars

Residents in the LE2 postcode—which covers Oadby, Knighton, Highfields, Aylestone, Glen Parva, Stoughton and Little Stretton—have to content with 7,461 more cars now than they did five years ago, which is the biggest absolute increase and a percentage increase of 8.7%.

The postcode with the biggest percentage increase in cars was NN17, which covers Bulwick and Corby. These areas of Corby and East Northamptonshire had 22.4% more cars in June 2019 than they did in June 2014. Nearby NN18, covering Great Oakley and Little Oakley, had the second largest percentage increase in cars at 17.4%. As a result these areas will now feel noticeably more congested than five years ago.
