In the five years ending Q3 2023, the number of cars in the North East increased from 1,133,689 to 1,196,449, an increase of 62,760 vehicles. This represents a 5.5% increase over five years.

Areas of the North East with Significantly More Cars

Every are in the North East saw an increase in the number of cars in the five years heading into 2024.

The county of Tyne and Wear had the biggest raw increase in licenced cars in the five years ending Q3 2023, rising by 22,549 from 431,601 to 454,150, a rise of 5.2%. But in terms of a percentage increase, Darlington had the largest increase of 17.1% (rising from 51,163 to 59,903 cars).

There was no area in the North East that lost cars
