Car Licence Statistics in Yorkshire and the Humber, England

We analysed data from the Department for Transport to discover which areas of Yorkshire and the Humber have significantly more cars now than five years ago. Residents in postcodes with more licenced cars can struggle with heavier congestion during peak times and finding parking spaces. From 2014 to 2019, the number of cars in Yorkshire and the Humber increased from 2,297,358 to 2,441,206, an increase of 143,848 vehicles. This represents a 6.3% increase over five years.

Areas of Yorkshire and the Humber with Significantly More Cars

Postcode LS12 in Leeds had the biggest increase in the number of licenced cars from 2014 to 2019, rising by 5,343 cars from 16,111 in 2014 to 21,454 in 2019, an increase of 33.2% over five years. LS12 covers Armley, Farnley, New Farnley and Wortley in Leeds. Close behind, with the addition of 4,411 cars was DN8 which covers Moorends, Sandtoft and Thorne in Doncaster.

LS12 also ranked third in terms of the largest percentage increase behind BD1 and BD3, areas which saw car increases of 51.5% and 33.2%, respectively. BD1 covers areas of Bradford including the city centre, which will certainly be feeling the addition of 50% more cars.

Here are the Yorkshire and the Humber postcodes with the biggest increase in number of licenced cars over the past five years, ranked on an absolute change basis.
