Diamond car insurance offers a solid set of features but the customer ratings are somewhat average so you should check to see what customers have to say before signing up, whether through a comparison search engine or www.diamond.co.uk.

Diamond, a brand of the Admiral Group (one of the largest UK car insurance companies) is aimed at women and safe drivers. In addition to car insurance, Diamond also offers travel insurance, van insurance, home insurance, scooter insurance and car warranty.

Features

Overall, we found Diamond comprehensive policies include most of the "must have" car insurance features as standard or are available as an add on.

Comprehensive policies bought direct from Diamond are loaded with some great features, including a courtesy car (in the event your car is in for repairs after being damaged in an injured incident), windscreen repair, stereo cover, rescue from an accident when your car can't be driven, cover in Europe, etc. Those looking for features such as motor legal protection, breakdown or premium hire car cover (a courtesy car if yours is stolen or written off after an incident) can add these features for an additional premium.

Diamond has earned just 1.8 stars out of 5 stars on Trustpilot, with more than 2 out of 5 customers giving Diamond just 1 star indicating a "Bad" experience. Here is a sample of the negative reviews, so you can see for yourself some issues that have been reported:

"Truly horrific customer service. Over several weeks I've tried to get information on my car claim and that of the person's car I damaged. Constantly passed around departments where they tell me they can't help me but will pass me on to someone who can who it turns out can't. Constantly trapped in a loop trying to find some information on how to get my car fixed."

"... Despite asking for a courtesy car (and it being on my policy) I was denied this until the appointed repairer had viewed, estimated and diamond had approved the work that needed to be done..."

"I was required to change my policy from student to nurse following the completion of my degree. When doing this my monthly payments shot up from around £80 per month to around £270 per month... I don't even drive my car to work..."

"Had my policy cancelled through fault of data validations team, was informed by letter meaning by the time it was delivered I had been driving for 4 days with no insurance."

"Have been insured with Diamond for 6 months. Had to cancel my policy due to selling the vehicle, but was then reinstated as I purchased a new one. Cancellation fee was refunded and the new policy was set lower than the previous, which I was surprised at as usually companies use this as an opportunity to skyrocket the price. All laid out in an e-mail and very straight forward."

"Have been a customer with them since 2018 and they’ve been amazing. When I needed to make changes to my policy the webchat was the easiest thing to use and got the problem sorted for me."

Reading the reviews, we noticed complaints about the time delays in getting a courtesy car—it can take days to have their appointed repairer view and estimate work, and for Diamond to approve the work, after which point a courtesy car is available.

As a telematics brand, Diamond car insurance is designed to offer lower prices for safe driving. From our analysis it does seem that their prices are amongst the most competitive in the market.
