Raw Dog Food Company Cost Comparison

While there isn't one "cheapest" raw dog food company because prices of raw dog food can vary considerably depending on the meat from company to company, Nutriment, Wolf Tucker and Nature's Menu's "Original" are generally more economical.

For instance, chicken costs the least from Wolf Tucker and Nutriment; lamb costs the least at Nutriment and Nature's Menu's "Original" food. However, Nature's Menu's Original meals are not as good value, due to their lower meat content—they contain only 55% meat, the least of the group.

For the most part, complete raw dog food meals contain 80% to 90% meat (including bone, offal, etc.) and 10% to 20% vegetables and fruits. Some products also contain oils and other supplemental ingredients like spirulina, kelp, herbs, etc. Note that Nature's Menu "Original" contains a lower percentage of meat, which is in part replaced by brown rice.

What's the Best, Cheapest Raw Dog Food Company?

According to our analysis of prices and ingredients, we found that Nutriment offers the best value raw dog food, providing a wide range of good ingredients for a good price. Here's a recap of the major UK raw dog food companies that provide frozen, complete meals that include meat plus fruit and veg.

Nutriment. Not only are Nutriment's prices amongst the lowest, but meals contain 85% meat and a variety of supplements a health-conscious person might add to their own diet such as Scottish cold water salmon oil, organic virgin coconut oil, raw sea kelp powder, bilberry powder, spirulina powder, whole milled sesame seeds and wheat germ oil (natural vitamin E)—in addition to fruits and vegetables like carrots, squash, broccoli and kale. Further cost savings can be achieved by ordering "chubbs," which cost around 20% less per kilo than the 500g packs. Also, those with a separate freezer can save 30% by placing a bulk order of 80kg.

Shipping: Orders received Monday to Thursday before 2pm will be packed and shipped that day for next day delivery via a courier. Orders placed at other times will be processed the next business day.

Natural Instinct. Natural Instinct's "Natural" meals include meat plus carrot, apple, butternut squash, spinach, sea kelp and Scottish salmon oil. Prices are a bit higher than other products on the market, and meals are available in 250g, 500g and 1kg packs. The 250g packs offer the least value for money but may be more convenient for smaller dogs.

Shipping: Most UK orders are shipped in polystyrene boxes using next day delivery via Parcelforce, with no signature required for delivery.

Luna & Me. Luna & Me is marketed as a posh raw dog food—as evidenced by the packaging, organic ingredients and photo presentation on marble slabs. Meals include meat (including liver and heart), plus superfoods and prebiotics—for instance, duck liver and British duck heart, butternut squash, carrot, apple, spinach, kale, wild salmon oil, organic raw sea kelp powder, organic coconut oil, organic spirulina powder, organic brewers yeast powder, organic chicory root powder, organic bilberry powder. You can order up to 14kgs of mince in a box, but there are no discounts for bulk orders. And the mince boxes don't look compatible with long storage times anyway (they're similar to the old-style Chinese takeway cardboard boxes with folding tops).

Shipping: Orders placed by 1pm Monday to Thursday are delivered the next day. Other orders will be processed the following business day for delivery a day later.

Nature's Menu. Nature's Menu offers three different complete, frozen raw dog food products: Original, Country Hunter and True Instinct. We like that their food is offered frozen into smaller "nuggets" or "bites" which are easier to dose and quicker to defrost. Whilst Nature's Menu "Original" recipe came in cheaper for beef and lamb meals, the product contains only 55% meat. We find their website a bit harder to navigate (e.g., can be tricky to differentiate between products).

Shipping: Home delivery service is rated superb by customers, with frozen food arriving in refrigerated vans.

Bella and Duke. Bella and Duke prices are amongst the highest for complete meals, with "Enriched" meals costing £3.25 per 500g when you buy 8kg. Their product contains interesting ingredients besides meat, such as carrot, broccoli, curley kale, parsley, pak choi, raspberry, blueberry, kelp, coconut oil, salmon oil, turmeric, ginger, spirulina and black pepper. Those with a bigger freezer can buy in bulk to save money, bringing the price as low as £2.36 per 500g tray for 80kg orders. Bella and Duke is a bit different from the other suppliers in that they send you a mixed box of meals, for instance including a few trays each of chicken, turkey, beef, duck, white fish, salmon, lamb and tripe. While the variety is likely good for your dog, Bella and Duke's mixed-box style is not great if your dog doesn't fancy some types of meat.

Shipping: Delivery is via DPD, normally within 24 hours.
