Tesco Bank Credit Cards

Tesco Bank offers a number of credit cards with features such as 0% purchase, balance transfer and money transfer capability. All of Tesco's credit cards let you earn Clubcard loyalty points on eligible purchases, but you won't earn points on balance or money transfers.

Tesco Bank Credit Cards

Tesco offers a suite of credit cards to suit different needs, from earning rewards to 0% purchase and balance transfer cards to a credit building card. The details such as 0% periods change frequently, so it's best to check their site for the latest offers. Below we discuss other features you should know about before signing up.

Balance Transfers: Tesco Bank Low Fee Balance Transfer Card

The Tesco Bank Low Fee Balance Transfer Card charges 0% interest payments on balance transfers. There's an advertised period of time (up to 15 months when we last checked in September 2023) but people with a less than perfect application might get a shorter 0% promotional period (e.g., 12 months). The cost to transfer your balance is .99%. Once this period ends (either because it naturally comes to an end or because you miss a monthly payment or exceed your credit limit at any point), remaining balances are charged at your normal APR (e.g., up to 14 months).

You can earn extra Tesco Clubcard points when you spend, even during the promotional period—so long as you stay under your credit limit and pay at least the monthly minimum payment on time. These additional Clubcard points yield rewards rates around 0.25% on Tesco spend and 0.125% outside Tesco (in addition to points you normally earn through the Tesco loyalty program.)

Summary

  • .99% fee on balance transfers, 0% rate for up to 15 months
  • Earn 1 extra Clubcard point (so 5 total) for every £4 spent at Tesco and Tesco fuel (not Esso)
  • Earn 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spend elsewhere
  • No annual fee

Balance Transfers: Tesco Balance Transfer Card

The Tesco Balance Transfer Credit Card offers a 0% interest promotional period on initial balance transfers. The duration of the card varies (e.g., up to 22 months in September 2023) but you might get a shorter-than-advertised time (e.g., 18 months). Plus the balance transfer fee changes from time to time (e.g., 2.75%).

While you won't earn Tesco Clubcard points on your balance transfers, you can earn them on purchases: earn 1 Clubcard point for every £4 spent (£4 minimum) in Tesco and 1 point for every £8 spent (£8 minimum) outside Tesco. These points are in addition to points you'd earn through the Clubcard loyalty card.

Summary

  • Offers good for transfers made within first 90 days
  • Earn 1 extra Clubcard point (so 5 total) for every £4 spent at Tesco and Tesco fuel (excluding Esso)
  • Earn 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spend elsewhere
  • No Clubcard points on balance transfers
  • No annual fee

Purchases and Balance Transfers: Tesco All Round Card

Note: this card is no longer available. Tesco Bank's all round card offer provides a medium-length period of 0% interest on both purchases and balances transfers. They sometimes have a few offers going, but our latest check showed a .99% balance transfer for up to up to 15 months—with a 0% purchases period of the same length. Like other Tesco Bank cards, you won't earn Tesco Clubcard points for balance transfers but you will earn points on new purchases. Expect rewards rates around 0.25% on Tesco spend and 0.125% outside of Tesco.

This card also has a similar length offer for money transfers, albeit for a higher fee.

Summary

  • Offer good for balances transferred within first 90 days
  • Earn 1 extra Clubcard point (so 5 total) for every £4 spent at Tesco and Tesco fuel (excluding Esso)
  • Earn 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spend elsewhere
  • No Clubcard points on balance transfers
  • No annual fee

Purchases and Balance Transfers: Balance Transfer and Purchases Credit Card

Note: this card is no longer available. Tesco Bank Balance Transfer and Purchases Credit Card provides a slightly longer period of 0% interest on both purchases and balances transfers than the All Round card. Our latest check showed a 2.29% balance transfer for up to up to 20 months)—with a 0% purchases period of the same length. Like other Tesco Bank cards, you won't earn Tesco Clubcard points for balance transfers but you will earn points on new purchases. Expect rewards rates around 0.25% on Tesco spend and 0.125% outside of Tesco on top of your normal Clubcard rewards.

This card can be used for money transfers, but there's no 0% period like on the All Round card.

Low APR: Tesco Low APR Credit Card

The Tesco Low APR Credit Card charges an ongoing rate of 10.9% APR (variable) as of October 2022, a lower-than-average interest rate versus most credit cards. When deciding between this Low APR card and a purchases card, consider how likely you are to miss a payment because on 0 interest purchase cards, you'll lose the promotional rate if you miss any payments. If you might miss a payment then this low APR card could end up cheaper for you in the end, it really depends. FYI you need to have an annual income of at least £5,000 for this card.

Summary

  • Earn 1 extra Clubcard point (so 5 total) for every £4 spent at Tesco and Tesco fuel (excluding Esso)
  • Earn 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spend elsewhere
  • No annual fee
  • Lower purchases interest rate

FAQs

To activate your Tesco credit card, log into the app and look for a picture of the credit card on the landing page. CLick where it says "Activate your card", at which point you'll need to enter your CVV number (the three digits on the back) and your card will be active. If you don't see a way to activate your card then is is probably already active. Card renewals don't need to be reactivated.
In addition to the points you usually earn through the Tesco loyalty programme, using a Tesco credit card you can earn an additional 1 Clubcard point for every £4 spent (£4 minimum) at Tesco and Tesco fuel (excluding Esso)—that makes for 5 total points earned per £4 spent—and 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spent (£8 minimum) elsewhere.
To request a credit limit increase on your Tesco credit card, you have two options: 1) log into Online Banking, choose your credit card, click 'More' and click 'Credit limit' or 2) go to the 'Account Management' section of the Mobile App and select 'Manage credit limit'.
You can pay your Tesco credit card bill by direct debit, a transfer from your bank account, using a debit card or via Online banking or the Mobile App.
You cannot pay for your Tesco credit card bill in store using cash. The closest would be paying by cheque or debit card at your bank (you might be charged for this) or sending a cheque by post to Tesco. Read about ways to pay here.
