Additionally, the size of the discount you secure for flying during a "cheap" month will vary depending on your destination. For example, analysis of Skyscanner data over the past two years showed that the biggest discounts for those in the North East were achieved by those flying from Leeds to Gran Canaria during November, when flights cost 51% less than the average cost of fares along the route, and Newcastle to Dalaman in April, when fares ran 55% less than average for the route.

How Far Ahead Should You Book?
In many cases, spontaneous holidaymakers booking last minute can find great deals out of Leeds and Newcastle. For example, the biggest discounts to sunny Lanzarote, Ibiza, Tenerife and Gran Canaria were found on last-minute fares, with plane tickets from Newcastle and Leeds costing 15% to 40% less when booked within two months of flying versus flights booked with more notice.
