The Creation Everyday credit card is one our favourite travel credit card to use overseas—there's no fee for non-sterling purchases or withdrawing cash from an ATM while abroad. The interest rate on cash withdrawals is lower-than-average at 12.9% APR. Be aware that the Creation Everyday card starts charging interest on cash withdrawals immediately; there is no grace period on cash advances so balances should be paid off as soon as possible if you've withdrawn cash—even before your next due date.

Creation Everyday Credit Card Review

The Creation Everyday Credit Card is a sensible card to use while you're on holiday because it doesn't charge FX fees, plus it sports lower-than-average interest rates. You won't be charged any foreign transaction fees when you use your card abroad, whether you're picking up the tab at a seaside restaurant, paying for a hot-air balloon ride, or simply withdrawing local currency from an ATM. (Except that you may be charged a withdrawal fee by the ATM, independent of this credit card.)

The following table shows what fees you would incur over the course of a two-week holiday abroad during which you make non-sterling ATM withdrawals four times and retail credit card charges on 20 occasions (all transactions less than £100 each), using the Creation Everyday card and an average, non-travel specific card that charges 3% (£3 minimum) for use overseas:

Fees for 4 Cash WithdrawalsFees for 20 Credit Card TransactionsTotal Fees
Creation Everyday£0£0£0
A Fee-Charging, Non-Travel-Specific Card£12£60£72

Bottom Line: Customers can use the Creation Everyday credit card whilst travelling abroad without incurring fx fees. While the interest rate on cash withdrawals is lower than average, be aware that withdrawing cash on the credit card can still be costly—with no grace period on cash withdrawals, interest starts accruing immediately.

Interest charges you incur on cash withdrawals will depend on the size of the withdrawals and the time until you pay off your balance—and, of course, your APR. To give you an idea of the costs of using this credit card to withdraw cash, the following chart shows the interest charges on £1,000 of cash withdrawals at 12.9% APR for a variety of time periods. The longer you take to pay off the full balance, the higher the interest charges.

Creation Everyday Card Compared to Other Cards

In order to decide if the Creation Everyday Credit Card is for you, it’s best to compare it against the closest competitors. Below we discuss the differences between the Creation Everyday card and some other travel credit cards, so you can decide which is best for you.

Creation Everyday Card vs Halifax Clarity Card

The Halifax Clarity Credit Card is a solid credit card for use abroad, from a well-known credit card company. The stand-out features are no fees on non-sterling ATM cash withdrawals and credit card transactions made overseas. The interest rate charged on cash withdrawals (important because ATM transactions start accruing interest right away) is lower than average, at 18.9%.

Quick Takeaway: Both the Creation Everyday card and the Halifax Clarity card are very good options if you're looking for a travel card to use overseas. The Creation Everyday does sport a lower interest rate on cash withdrawals, but this only matters if you can't pay off the balance immediately and instead leave your balance to accrue interest. The Halifax brand may be more familiar, if that makes a difference to you.

Creation Everyday Card vs Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Plus Card

The Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Plus Credit Card is another solid card for use overseas, because it currently charges no fees on foreign ATM withdrawals or card transactions. The defining feature of the Barclaycard travel card is that you won't incur any interest on cash withdrawals IF you pay off your balance in full and on time. Plus you can earn 0.25% cashback on purchases.

Quick Takeaway: The Barclaycard can save you some money because it doesn't charge interest on cash withdrawals, so long as you pay of your full balance by the time it's due.

Creation Everyday Card vs Santander Zero Card

The Santander Zero Credit Card is also useful as a travel card since it doesn't charge any fees on cash withdrawals or non-sterling transactions made abroad. You may also find some value in the Santander's Retail Offers program, which can save you between 5% and 25% at participating retailers. One drawback to this card is the higher-than-average interest rate on cash withdrawals amongst the group of travel cards.

Quick Takeaway: If you are purely looking for a travel card to save you money on transactions made overseas, we recommend the Creation Everyday card over the Santander Zero card, due to the difference in interest rates on cash withdrawals. If you will also use your new card in the UK, the Santander Zero might provide some interesting value-creating opportunities through the Retailer Offers.
