NEWS: Nuba Credit Card is no longer in service. For other balance transfer offers, please see our article on the Best Balance Transfer Credit Cards. The information below was correct while the Nuba card was still active.

The Nuba Transfer Credit Card is a relatively new offering from MBNA joining the category of longest 0% balance transfers, with 36 months of 0% APR on initial balance transfers for a 2.5% transfer fee.

Nuba Transfer Credit Card Review

The Nuba Transfer Credit Card should be used for its primary purposes—balance transfers—and little else. Since there is no 0% purchases promotional period, cardholders should avoid putting new purchases on this card, unless they are absolutely sure they can pay off the purchases balance in full every month. Carrying over a balance from month to month on new purchases will only lead to interest charges; instead, use your hard-earned cash to pay down existing debt.

Cardholders have up to 36 months to pay back their transferred balances in a "no-interest" environment. Some cardholders may receive shorter promotional periods. Keep in mind that it is crucial to pay on time and stay within the credit limit, or you'll lose the promotional periods. Nuba Credit Cards are issued by MBNA, which does not allow balances to be transferred between MBNA accounts.

Bottom Line: The Nuba Transfer Credit Card is a solid option for a balance transfer if you need the longest time to manage your existing credit card debt in a no-interest situation.

How Much Can I Save with a Balance Transfer?

A balance transfer lets you move an outstanding balance from an interest-charging credit card to a 0% interest card, eliminating interest charges to pay down debt sooner. Let’s take an example to see the interest savings and how you can be debt free sooner.

Say you have £1,500 outstanding on another credit card that charges 18.9% and you are making monthly payments of £40. On that card, you will be debt free in 56 months, and will have paid about £700 in interest payments. If instead, you transfer the balance to an appropriate balance transfer card and pay on time, you will not incur any interest charges while you pay down the principle. You will save £700, and also you will be debt free within 38 months instead of 56 months—that’s 1.5 years sooner.

The Nuba Transfer Credit Card charges a 2.5% fee to transfer the balance, that works out to £37.50 on a £1,500 balance—a small price to pay to avoid hundreds of pounds in interest payments.

The Transfer card is one of two Nuba credit cards currently on offer. The other is the Nuba All Round card, that has a 30-month 0% period for balance transfers, money transfers and purchases.

How does the Nuba Transfer Credit Card Compare to Other Credit Cards?

In order to decide if the Halifax Clarity is for you, it’s best to compare it against the closest competitors.

Nuba Transfer vs Barclaycard Balance Transfer

The Barclaycard's 32-month balance transfer is currently one of the best offers if you need as much time as possible to bring your existing credit card debt under control. The 1.39% effective transfer fee is very competitive, but be aware that you'll initially be charged a 3.5% transfer fee—your account will be credited with the difference within 28 days of the balance transfer, so long as your account is not in default.

Quick Takeaway: If you miss a payment or exceed the credit limit, you may end up paying a higher 3.5% transfer fee on the Barclaycard.

Nuba Transfer vs MBNA Balance Transfer

MBNA longest Balance Transfer Offer gives a 36-month 0% interest period for balance transfers made within the first 60 days of account opening, for a fee of 2.49% of transferred balances. Use MBNA's eligibility checker to see how likely you are to be accepted before you apply. This is a soft credit check will not adversely affect your credit rating.

Quick Takeaway: Both cards are issued by MBNA and have nearly identical features. Choosing between these two is like picking a sports team because you like the colour of the jerseys better.
