Wedding Plan Insurance Prices

Wedding Plan insurance starts from £39.99 for a low-budget wedding with one ceremony and one reception and goes up to £534 or more for a wedding costing up to £65,000 and spanning two ceremonies and two receptions. Regardless of the size of your wedding, this puts the cost of insurance at less than 1% of your wedding budget. And while you're unlikely to need the insurance, having it in place can certainly make your planning more relaxing.

What Is and Is Not Covered by Wedding Insurance?

Wedding insurance doesn't cover you if you change your mind about getting married—it is meant to provide a measure of financial protection when a situation that's out of your control wrecks havoc on your wedding ceremony or reception. For instance, if your vintage wedding car hire goes bust and you lose the money you've paid them or extreme weather means you have to rearrange your big day. For full details see the coverage limits below and read the policy wording, but here is a brief summary of some of what's covered, and not:

What's covered by Wedding Plan Insurance?

  • CANCELLATION & REARRANGEMENT: if a supplier, your venue or extreme weather causes you to cancel.
  • LOSS, DAMAGE & THEFT: protection of important wedding items such as your cake, flowers, attire, transport, gifts, ceremonial swords and more
  • SICKNESS & INJURY: rearrangement of the wedding day if a close relative becomes ill or injured and can't attend

What's not covered by Wedding Plan Insurance?

  • Deciding not to proceed with the marriage or register the civil partnership (and/or celebrations)
  • Personal Liability cover for weddings or receptions in the USA or Canada
  • Public Liability Cover or Marquee Cover for weddings located outside of the UK
  • Wedding planning services where the planner is responsible for paying other suppliers (you need written evidence directly between you and your individual suppliers)
  • Receptions finishing 21 days or more after the ceremony
  • When you know before buying the policy that there may be a problem (from a close relative with a terminal health prognosis to a vendor being nonresponsive)
  • Bouncy castles, fireworks, etc.
  • Weddings outside of the UK. (Travel and/or accommodation for weddings outside the UK could potentially be covered through a travel insurance policy.)

Which Wedding Plan Insurance is Best for Me?

Choosing the right plan is simply a matter of knowing your wedding budget and buying a plan that covers your irrecoverable expenses in case of unavoidable cancellation, such as ceremonial attire, flowers, photographs, caterers, a wedding car, accommodation and the services from any other wedding services supplier. Once you have an idea of your wedding budget for food, drinks, music, venue, etc., you can figure out how much cancellation cover you'll need.

For example, if your wedding budget for these items is £20,000 then the Platinum plan with £22,000 of cancellation cover would probably be suitable to cover any disaster cancellation scenario. Use the table below to look up your budget and find the best Wedding Plan policy accordingly. (The premiums below represent the starting price, which covers one ceremony and one reception. Prices can increase if, for instance, you have two weddings.)

Also check the cover limits on other items such as rings and financial failure of suppliers to make sure these limits are sufficient for you as well in the plan you choose. These limits are available in the policies section below.

Wedding Plan Customer Reviews

There are now a few Trustpilot reviews of WeddingPlan insurance as of the time of writing, but only 83, giving them a rating of 4.6, which is pretty good.

Wedding Plan used to be rated with 4.8 out of 5 stars by customers at feefo, but that was pre-Covid and there haven't been any reviews left there in the past few years.

Most reviews are pre or during Covid. Here is one since:

"I used the usual comparison sites and this one suited our needs. It provided a high level of cover for the things we needed, with a low excess and for a price below what I was expecting or had been quoted from elsewhere previously. Buying it on line was pretty easy too."

And one from July 2021:

"Impossible to contact via phone or email. Made claim via their claim page months ago and continue to chase up but absolutely no response."

Separately, Wedding Plan surveyed over 1,0000 customers and displayed the results on their website in 2024, finding that 99% of Wedding Plan policyholders would recommend them.

Wedding Plan Insurance Policies

Wedding Plan Insurance offers nine different policies to cover wedding budgets up to £65,000. Higher levels of cover not only have bigger limits for cancellation, but also have higher coverage for rings, financial failure, wedding attire, flowers, etc. Wedding Plan's Premier+ policy has the highest level of cover, with £65,000 for cancellation, £35,000 for financial failure of a supplier, £10,000 for each of wedding attire, rings, cake and flowers. This Premier+ policy starts from £210.35 and is their most expensive plan.

But due to Covid-19 they removed this cover from the market and don't seem to have re-introduced it yet.
